Shipping
per mile it's cheap BUT by volume it's a global killer

But IF we decreased the need for shipping and made it more efficient we'd be able to ship stuff sustainably.

• REDUCE FOOD MILES and use more home grown products.
- How many times have you heard it - cattle being shipped to France, MGsports cars having parts made here, then shipped to Japan only to be sold back here. Cheap labour costs abroad outway common sense Green Tax is needed to redress the balance. It's lunacy.
PROBLEM: The Powers that be have a vested interest to keep Politicians from doing this.

• USE WIND POWER for Cargo ships
- Not as crazy as it sounds, with new ripstop materials and unlike sails, kites would be used which have a 180º operating wind window and can be computer comtrolled.
PROBLEM: I don't know what the problem is, maybe the Oil magnets don't wan't the technology to exist, for obvious reasons...

• The second biggest cargo is fuel

- So, become more effecient at home. Duh!
PROBLEM: See above.

Graphs below are a good idea what the scale of the problem are:
(From http://www.british-shipping.org/british/index.htm)

Figure One: 1 Ton carried over 1 Kilometre

Figure Two: Shipping doubles in twenty years

Figure Three: So is 17 THOUSAND tonnes okay?

Figure Four: Air travel IS the biggest enemy (See my page on Air travel HERE )
but shipping is still 1 ton OF BAD GAS per km and ...
...as from 1st January 2006, the world trading fleet was made up of 47,681 ships. It's HUGE!

It's not rocket science!
